So how much is your road tax? It’s a question we all ask ourselves at one point or another. Road tax-VED (Vehicle Excise Duty) as it officially goes by is something that affects every driver and can be a complicated matter.
The main thing to be aware of is the increase in road tax rates. The government has said that the new rates will be “fiscally neutral” – in other words, they’re not expecting to make any extra money from the changes. The big winners will be electric cars, which will see their rates slashed by up to 50%. Meanwhile, the most polluting petrol and diesel cars will see their rates go up by as much as 25%. These changes are part of the government’s plan to encourage people to switch to low-emission vehicles.
